Use an informal, conversational style. Web surfers skim
content. They do not generally read long involved paragraphs. So use
short, straight-to-the-point sentences, and short paragraphs. For some
pointers on writing for web publishing,
check out this
resource.
Include hyperlinks to
websites and resources referenced in your article. These are very
important. As above, if you know how to include the html code to embed
the links, then do it. Otherwise just note the web address (URL) immediately
after the word(s) you want linked. Put it in angle brackets like this <http://www.website.com>.
Please do not expect your editor to dig these up. They must be included,
and they must be correct.
Include at least one
photograph if it is appropriate. Copy and save photos/images from websites you are using as
resources. Please get permission to reproduce images that are not your own. If you know how to include html code to embed the photo,
then go ahead and do it. If not, just keep the photo handy and send it along
via an email attachment when your article is finished.
Formatting your text
The simplest format is generally the best. Use straight text without any
formatting or hard line breaks, except at the end of paragraphs.
Put an extra space between paragraphs. When you copy and paste your text
into the submission form you should get a good idea of where your formatting
problems are. These problems are usually with line breaks. Do your best to
make it look good. We will format it as cleanly as possible before
publication.
You might want to try using an ezine formatting tool like "Ziney" from
www.kndata.com. This tool will eliminate
extra breaks. You can then just copy and paste your text into the submission
form.
