Advantages of getting your material published

Most writers, illustration artists, graphic designers, and creators of other online media are not just doing it for the sheer love of it. Many of us DO love doing it, but love (at least in this form) doesn't pay the bills.

It's obvious, isn't it? We have to get our stuff published.

If you are a writer, web publisher, or online marketer, you are probably already aware of the importance of getting your articles and features published on various websites.

Here are some of these advantages:

Your credibility as a writer is enhanced the more widely your material is published.
Your skill as a writer should be further developed every time you submit your material for publication.
Your web traffic will increase because readers will follow your links (assuming they like what they read.)
Your Search Engine ranking will improve because you will have many more incoming links to your website.
Your chances of selling your writing, your products, your skills, etc. will be enhanced because you will have more readers, more traffic going through your site, more confidence in your writing ability, and a better understanding of the way traffic is generated on the web.

There are essentially two different kinds of sites that accept article submissions.

First, there are general article indexes and repositories which hold and (presumably) make thousands of articles available for reading or downloading. Who knows how many readers you will get by submitting your articles to these sites? But it is free, it gives you links, and it certainly can't do you any harm.

Second, there are active website and ezine publishers (like us) who need fresh and original content, and who circulate this content to their opt-in email lists, and make it available on their websites.

Ours is the second kind of site. Submission to sites like ours is potentially much more valuable than the first, because your material gets actively promoted and circulated.

But this also means it must be of high quality. Repositories and indexes will accept almost any kind of content, and leave it to site visitors to make up their minds whether they think it is worthwhile or not. But active publishers need high quality content because it is a reflection on the quality of their publication as a whole.

In other words, the "cost" of submitting to active publishers is greater. But so is the pay off.
